If you've gotten this far in your supplement research, you already know what proprietary blends are.

You know what undisclosed Apex doses look like. You know which brands hide behind ancestral storytelling and which ones hide behind influencer marketing. You've narrowed your shortlist to brands that disclose every milligram, third-party test their batches, and don't insult the reader's intelligence.

Mars Men and Jocko Combat Tested are both on that list.

This comparison is for the men who've made it past the easy decisions. Both formulas are good. The right answer depends on what you're trying to optimize and how much pathway coverage you want in a single bottle.

COMMON GROUND

What both formulas get right

Before the differences, the common ground.

THE COMPARISON

The two formulas, side by side

Jocko Combat Tested 3.0. From Jocko Willink's brand Jocko Fuel. The current version is built around Tongkat Ali, Shilajit, DIM, ginger root, aged garlic extract, vitamin D, zinc, and a TestFactor blend that replaced Fadogia Agrestis in the 3.0 reformulation. Disclosed doses, no proprietary blends, third-party tested, FDA-registered cGMP-compliant manufacturing, no banned substances. Around $35 per bottle on subscription.

Mars Men. Eight ingredients across three pathways: Tongkat Ali, Shilajit, fenugreek, boron, zinc, vitamin D3, vitamin K1+K2, and taurine. Disclosed doses, no proprietary blends, third-party tested, cGMP-compliant facility. $59 per month on subscription.

Both formulas address LH stimulation. Both supply raw materials. The difference is in pathway coverage beyond production.

MECHANISM

How each one actually works

Think of your endocrine system as a factory. The brain sends LH down to the testes. LH tells the testes to manufacture testosterone. SHBG can lock some of that testosterone up before it reaches your muscles, brain, and libido.

Jocko Combat Tested goes after the testes directly. Tongkat Ali and the TestFactor blend push the testes to produce more testosterone. Shilajit supports mitochondrial function inside the testes.¹ DIM helps balance estrogen by directing it down a healthier metabolic pathway. Vitamin D and zinc supply raw materials.² It's a focused production-and-balance formula. The most aggressive testosterone-pathway formula on the OTC market besides Mars Men. Also the most affordable.

Mars Men runs the factory in three places at once.

Make More. Tongkat Ali at 1,000 mg pushes the brain to send more LH.³ Vitamin D3 at 4,000 IU and zinc at 30 mg supply raw materials.² Shilajit at 400 mg activates mitochondrial function, clinical research shows 250 mg twice daily for 90 days raised total testosterone ~20% in healthy men.¹

Keep More. Boron at 4 mg supports healthy testosterone metabolism as a research-backed cofactor. Fenugreek at 1,000 mg supports estrogen balance through aromatase modulation.⁴

Use Better. Taurine at 675 mg protects testosterone-producing cells and supports circulation.⁵ Vitamin K (K1+K2) supports cellular energy and amplifies D3's downstream effects.⁶

The pathway gap. Jocko hits production hard.

The pathway gap. Jocko hits production hard. Mars Men hits production, retention, and utilization.

The honest read

Jocko is the most disciplined disclosed-dose formula on the natural testosterone shelf besides Mars Men. The 3.0 reformulation removed Fadogia Agrestis (which had limited human data and was associated with mixed safety reports) and replaced it with TestFactor, a smart, science-led move that tells you the brand reads the literature.

What Jocko 3.0 doesn't address: SHBG-related cofactor support (no boron-as-T-cofactor framing), aromatase / estrogen balance through fenugreek, circulation and cellular protection (no taurine, no vitamin K2). Jocko leans on DIM for estrogen, which is a different mechanism than fenugreek but not a replacement for it. Mars Men hits clinical doses across all three pathways: production (Tongkat Ali, Shilajit, D3, zinc), retention (boron, fenugreek), utilization (taurine, K2). The Tongkat Ali dose is at the upper end of the studied range. The fenugreek dose covers and exceeds the research-supported threshold.

Both are strong protocols. One is a partial protocol at lower cost. The other is a full protocol at moderate cost.

SOCIAL PROOF

WHAT REAL MEN ARE SAYING

Jocko Combat Tested · the third-party reviews pattern

Walmart reviewers are notably specific about the Combat Tested experience. One representative review describes "significantly boosted energy levels, increased stamina, and supported muscle growth and recovery" with the all-natural ingredient list called out by name. Another describes feeling closer to 25 than 40 with noticeable libido improvement.

The negative reviews are honest and useful, one reviewer flagged side effects from Combat Tested 2.0 that they attributed to potentially impure Fadogia Agrestis (which is part of why Jocko reformulated to 3.0). Another reported a year of use with no noticeable difference, suggesting the formula doesn't work for everyone.

THE MONEY TABLE

THE ANNUAL COST COMPARISON

Jocko Combat Tested runs about $35 per bottle on subscription. That's roughly $378 per year, the cheapest disciplined disclosed-dose option on this list. Mars Men is $59 per month subscription, $708 per year.

Jocko is roughly $330 cheaper per year.

The math: Jocko delivers ~$378/year for production-focused, partial-pathway coverage with credible doses. Mars Men delivers $708/year for full three-pathway coverage including the dose-disclosed Tongkat Ali at the upper end of the research range, fenugreek for estrogen balance, taurine for cellular protection, and vitamin K2 for D3 amplification.

Cost-per-pathway, both are reasonable. The choice is whether the additional pathway coverage matters to you.

SAFETY

SIDE EFFECTS AND REVERSIBILITY

Both formulas are over-the-counter and generally well-tolerated.

Jocko 3.0. Removed Fadogia after 2.0 reports of side effects. The 3.0 formulation has a cleaner safety profile. Some users report digestive effects on an empty stomach.

Mars Men. All ingredients are GRAS. Some users report mild digestive effects on an empty stomach. No dependency. No cycling required. The 90-Day Higher-T Guarantee covers your trial period.

VERDICT

THE VERDICT

This is the closest comparison in the category. Both brands earned their place on the shortlist.

If you're on a tight budget and you're focused primarily on production support, Jocko Combat Tested is excellent, and the brand transparency is real.

If you want full pathway coverage (production, retention, utilization) in a single SKU at clinical-range doses, Mars Men is the more complete protocol.

FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Is Jocko Combat Tested 3.0 better than 2.0?

Yes. The 3.0 reformulation removed Fadogia Agrestis (which had limited human data and some user-reported side effects) and replaced it with the TestFactor blend. The change reflects responsiveness to the literature and to user feedback. The 3.0 formula has a cleaner safety profile.

Why doesn't Mars Men include DIM like Jocko?

DIM is a credible compound for estrogen pathway management. Mars Men addresses estrogen balance through fenugreek (1,000 mg standardized extract), which has direct clinical research showing testosterone and libido effects.⁴ Both mechanisms have evidence. Mars Men's path is fenugreek-led; Jocko's is DIM-led.

Can I take both Jocko and Mars Men together?

We'd recommend choosing one. Both formulas are designed as standalone systems. Layering them risks overlapping ingredients (Tongkat Ali, Shilajit, zinc, vitamin D) at higher-than-tested combined doses.

Is the price difference worth it?

Jocko is ~$330/year cheaper. The Mars Men formula adds Tongkat Ali at a higher disclosed dose, fenugreek for estrogen balance, taurine for cellular protection, and vitamin K2 for D3 amplification. Whether those additions justify the cost depends on whether you'd otherwise stack them separately (in which case Mars Men is cheaper) or whether production-focused coverage is enough for you.

Are both third-party tested?

Yes. Both brands publish third-party testing standards and manufacture in cGMP-compliant facilities. Both are among the most transparent options in the category.
